My Journey
Hello! I’m Cris Chaverri, and my journey has been as rich and varied as the landscapes I’ve called home. Originally from the beautiful country of Costa Rica, I’ve had the privilege of living in the United States for over 18 years now, proudly calling myself a U.S. citizen. This blend of cultures has deeply shaped who I am and how I approach the world – with an open mind and a heart for connection.
My life has been a wonderful tapestry of diverse experiences and passions. On the creative side, I’m an artist who loves to capture moments as a mobile photographer, and you’ll often find me with a guitar in hand, immersed in songwriting. My hands-on experiences are just as varied: I’ve managed a farm, learning the rhythm of the land, which included everything from managing the workers to agricultural project planning and execution to riding horses to milking goats. I even successfully ran a portable milling operation and a furniture business, transforming raw materials into beautiful pieces.
My professional journey has spanned supervising operations for a ground handling company, contributing to an international sales team for a major corporation, and being part of a web design team crafting sites for prominent businesses in the vibrant Lansing-Okemos area. I’ve also had the joy of sharing my cultural heritage, assisting and teaching Latino cultural traditions, including dancing and singing, at a bilingual immersion pilot program.
Beyond my professional and artistic pursuits, a deep sense of care and community runs through everything I do. I taught kids to dance and sing in Spanish in a Cultural Immersion program for schools. For five years, I provided dedicated one-on-one care to an elderly lady, an experience that taught me invaluable lessons about compassion and companionship.
In my community in Costa Rica, I’ve offered emotional support, grief support, and relationship coaching, often leading spiritual prayer meetings and prayers at funerals, providing guidance and a steady presence during life’s most challenging moments. My empathy also extends to animals too, as I’ve rescued and cared for several pit bull dogs with both behavioral and physical issues.
I’ve even had the thrill of performing my songs on stage and assisting with AV setup, operation assistance and breakdown for live shows. All these paths, seemingly disparate, have woven together to create a unique approach to how I connect with people and offer support. I truly believe that every experience has equipped me to understand and assist you with genuine care and practical knowledge.
